s, for some, is we do not know what 2011, the start of the next decade, will have in store for us. Will it be another horrible year or will it bring

opportunities and prospects? The more positive among us will be eagerly anticipating

opportunities in business, innovative products to launch and exciting fresh markets to explore. For many European-based
companies
, 2010 and its predecessor were not the best of years. Economic woes have seen many
companies
in trouble while others the more adventurous, perhaps have cast their nets wide and expanded their areas, with regions like India, China, Russia, the Middle East, North Africa and former Eastern bloc countries in Europe being the focus. And there are

ITW Allen Coding Systems has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Miquel Conesa as
new
Business Unit Manager responsible for the UK and ITW Betaprint in Barcelona, Spain. Miquel, who will be responsible for the dayto-day operations of both business units and all senior management within them, brings a wealth of industry experience to the role. Food packaging and processing solutions specialist tna has appointed design engineer, Tim Moulsdale, as its
new
European general manager. Moulsdale will oversee all aspects of tna's European operations including sales, manufacturing and customer service assuming these responsibilities for the firm's six offices and three agents throughout the continent.

but others will want to expand with their markets. It is a tricky situation, one company in the Netherlands told me. The opportunities to expand are there but diplomacy, patience, money to invest, political stability and a trusty local partner or agent would be his basic requirements, he said, if anyone wanted his advice. Expansion and surviving the recent recession could be one of the challenges we have to face in the coming year. n
